About the Tour:

Get ready for a heart-pounding biking expedition to the virgin land of Spiti that is dreamt by many, but only a few dare to experience. Flaunt your biking skills as you mark your way through the high altitude passes that provide spectacular views of the snow-clad mountains and the gravelly pathways that are cut by glaciated waterfalls.

The tricky curves of Spiti will take you to the tiny hamlets, 1000-year-old monasteries and some high suspended bridges that will give you chills. Pat yourself for pulling out this adventurous journey as you look back at the dusty roads against the rugged Himalayan backdrop.

How to Reach:

By Air: Being the nearest Airport from Spiti, Chandigarh International Airport is a major air hub which operates frequent flights to other destinations across the country.  

By Road: Another option is The Chandigarh Transport Undertaking (CTU) which operates buses to nearby states and Union territories on a daily basis.

By Rail: Chandigarh Junction Railway is also a feasible option as it is well-connected to other major cities in India and closer to Spiti Valley.

Spiti Valley Bike Trip Itinerary

Day 1
Arrival in Chandigarh | Meet your Bikes and the Fellow Riders
Chandigarh
  • Reach the pre-booked hotel in Chandigarh and complete the check-in formalities.
  • Rest for a while and then you will meet with your fellow riders and get to know each other better.
  • You will then meet your road captain who will be leading the entire trip and will brief you about the terrain and will draw out a day-wise final plan.
  • After the briefing, you will be introduced to the Royal Enfield motorcycles that you will be riding for the rest of the tour.
  • Dinner and overnight stay at the hotel in Chandigarh.
Day 2
Chandigarh to Narkanda | The Apple Capital of India
Narkanda
  • Start early to beat the traffic out of Chandigarh and head towards the Himalayas on the Himalayan Expressway.
  • On the way, you will be passing through Chail, a hill station in the lower Himalayan range and home to beautiful flower orchards.
  • After a short lunch break, you will head towards Narkanda, known as the fruit bowl of Himachal Pradesh.
  • Apple and cherry trees line the roadsides and the tall Deodhar fir trees spread their sweet aroma all around.
  • End the day's ride after reaching the hotel in Narkanda.
Day 3
Narkanda to Chitkul | The Last Inhabited Village at the Indo-Tibetan Border
Chitkul
  • Wake up early in the morning to experience one of the most beautiful sunrises.
  • After a delicious breakfast, you will leave for one of the most beautiful views of Kinnaur Valley.
  • Travel along the Sutlej river till Karcham from where you will take a right turn towards Chitkul following the Baspa river.
  • Chitkul is the last inhabited village before the Indo-China border and here you can also visit the famous ‘Hindustan ka Akhri Dhaba’ for an amazing meal.
  • Overnight stay and dinner at hotel/homestay in Chitkul.
Day 4
Chitkul to Kalpa | Treasure the Sacred Mount Kinnaur Kailash
Kalpa
  • Wake up to a beautiful morning and have a delicious breakfast.
  • Check out from the hotel and ride back towards Karcham from where you will proceed deeper into the valley towards Powari.
  • At Powari take a left to ride to ReoKong Peo, which is the main town of Kinnaur district from where you will proceed to Kalpa.
  • Spend the night in the beautiful Kalpa village overlooking the Kinnaur Kailash mountains.
  • Overnight stay at camp/homestay in Kalpa.
Day 5
Kalpa to Kaza | Explore the 'Ajanta of the Himalayas'
Kaza
  • Wake up early and after having a hearty breakfast, you will leave for Kaza.
  • Ride through the Indo - Tibetan highway and pass through Khab Bridge which marks the confluence of Spiti and the Satluj River.
  • You will then proceed to Nako which is the last village of Kinnaur Valley and here you can take a short stop near Nako Lake.
  • You'll then again hit the road and just as you cross Sumdo you will be entering the Spiti Valley.
  • Just 3 Km after Sumdo, take a detour on the right through the gate to visit the 500-Year-Old Mummy in the Gue Village.
  • Stop by the "Ajanta of the Himalayas" - Tabo Monastery, which is the oldest continuously operating Buddhist enclave in both India and the Himalayas.
  • You will then proceed towards Kaza where you will be spending the night at a hotel.
Day 6
Sightseeing around Kaza | Heal your Soul at the Key Monastery
Kaza
  • Post early morning breakfast, go out to explore the spectacular beauty of Kaza.
  • Visit tourist spots including the Key Gompa Monastery nestled between the mountains in a bowl-shaped valley of the small village Langza in Spiti valley.
  • Also, visit Hikkim which houses the highest post office, and is also the 'World’s Highest Post Office'.
  • Hikkim is close to Komik which is one of the highest year-round inhabited locations in India.
  • You can also visit the Chicham Bridge, the highest in Asia and built at a staggering height of 13596 ft.
  • After exploring the beautiful villages of Langza, Hikkim and Komik, return to the hotel in Kaza for an overnight stay.
Day 7
Kaza to Chandratal via Kunzum La | Explore Glistening Lake that Changes Colours Throughout the Day
Chandratal
  • Post breakfast, you will proceed towards the next location which is the beautiful crescent-shaped Chandratal Lake.
  • After passing Kunzum La you will take a right before Baltal to visit Chandratal Lake.
  • The beauty of this place is spectacular and you will have to leave behind the vehicle and then trek for two kilometres to reach the lake.
  • The lake is situated in the Spiti part of the Lahaul and Spiti district and is also called the “Moon Lake” due to its crescent shape.
  • It is overlooked by the mountains on one side and a cirque on the other. After the sunset, the lake glitters under the starlit sky adding to its overall charm.
  • Enjoy dinner and overnight stay at the camps near Chandratal.
Day 8
Chandratal Lake to Manali | Witness Spellbinding Views of Geypan Peaks
Manali
  • Today you will be leaving behind the Spiti Valley and start riding towards Manali.
  • On the way, you will be crossing the newly built Atal Tunnel and reach Manali.
  • After reaching Manali you will check in to the hotel and take some rest.
  • In the evening you’ll be free to explore the city of Manali.
  • Later, return back to the hotel.
  • Overnight stay at the hotel in Manali.
Day 9
Manali to Chandigarh | Bid Farewell to the Mountains
Chandigarh
  • After breakfast, you will be riding from Manali to Chandigarh and will be reaching Chandigarh.
  • On reaching Chandigarh, you'll hand over the bikes and bid farewell to your fellow riders.
  • This marks the end of your memorable bike trip to the beautiful Spiti Valley.

Know Before You Go for Spiti Valley Bike Trip

  • For safety purposes, a biking tour is not recommended for women who are more than 3 months pregnant, anyone that has had major surgery, or has a broken leg/arm, has chronic back or neck pains, etc.
  • Climatic conditions in the high altitudes vary from the plains; it is advisable that you take adequate time to get acclimatized to high altitudes.
  • Rates may fluctuate with any change in services/hotels. The difference in the cost shall be borne by the client in case of any amendment in the package due to an increase in the number of guests, hotel change, etc., before the beginning of the trip.
  • The hotels are subject to their availability. In case they are not available, the travellers will be accommodated in a property of similar standard.
  • Pay heed to the tour guides and instructors in order to enjoy a safe and sound tour.
  • All entry tickets for stupas, monasteries, sightseeing, state and entry fees, monument entrances, camera charges, permits, etc. are not a part of the package.
  • Any personal expenses or items of personal nature will not be included in the package. Any meals or transfers not mentioned in the itinerary are to be considered an exclusion in the deal. Any kind of drink (alcoholic, aerated, or mineral water) is not included in the package cost.
  • Transportation during the trip would be in Non AC & Non-Heater vehicles. Please wear clothes according to the weather while travelling.
  • It is recommended to carry enough warm clothes and the right kind of shoes for the tour. The advisable baggage weight is 60 litres as you might have to carry the luggage to the backup vehicle, the accommodation, etc.
  • ID proof is mandatory for each individual guest at the time of booking, and also upon arrival. PAN card will not be considered as a valid address proof.
  • GST is applicable to the package cost.
  • Any breakage or damage of any items in the resort will be charged at actuals.
  • All the travellers are requested to carry a copy of their medical certificate (if any) with them.
  • Guidelines issued by the State-Government is to be followed. Social distancing to be maintained. Frequent hand sanitization and use of mask recommended.
  • There will be a refundable security deposit per bike depending on the variant selected. Please ensure you pay that in advance and carry the receipt with you at all times to get a refund later.
  • In case a rider leaves the bike in the middle of the trip, charges for re-transporting the bike to the destination will be borne by the rider.
  • During a bike trip, in case the roads are blocked due to landslides or a reason that is beyond control, Thrillophilia will rearrange the itinerary for the travellers real-time, however, the cost of alternative accommodation will be borne by the customer as the hotels pre-booked execute their cancellation policies and are nonrefundable.
  • Any fuel for the bikes, any charges for spares parts and damage caused to the bikes, etc. will be charged at extra.
  • Check your bikes properly before every day's ride and keep the tour guide informed of the same.
  • Always carry your driver's license, wear helmets and riding gear, etc., while riding a bike.
